WOMEN’S CLUB.
A delightful musical programme arranged bv Miss Carter was given at the Canterbury Women s Club last night, many members being present, including the president (Mrs Holland). Mrs Cyril White played a pianoforte solo, “ Gnomenreigen ” (Liszt), and as an encore Chopin s “ Prelude in G.” Miss Ella Thomson played Chopin's Polonaise in C sharp minor and his “ Butterfly Study” as an encore. Mr Bernard Barker played two charming violin solos. Fugue and Gavotte (KreislcrBaeh) and Berceuse (Cui), Miss Lynch plaving the accompaniments. Miss G. Wilkinson recited ’’ The Market Place,” and as an encore “ Lorraine ” very feelingly. Mrs Maclaren’s songs were “La Wally” by Catalini-and “Scenes that are Brightest.” from “ Maritana.” Dr Pairman, who was in splendid voice, sang Schumann's “ Ich Grolle. Niche,” and when encored Sassen’s “ When Thy Blue Eyes,” responding to a double encore with “Thv Beaming Eyes” (MacDowetl). Miss Carter played the accompaniments. Supper was afterwards handed round.
