At least this seems to be the idea of Martha Bates, 20, pretty mountain girl, who was sentenced to thirty days in gaol at Whitesburg, Kentucky, because she slapped Rev Arlie Brown, voung minister, who criticised bobbed hair in a sermon. Miss Bates at her trial set up a defense that she felt resentment at the minister’s criticisms of womanhood
