CHILDREN BURN AS PARENTS AND BROTHERS WATCH.
HEROIC BOY HURT IN RESCUE ATTEMPT. (Special to the “Star.”) SAN FRANCISCO, June 3. Frederick Dettencourt, eight years old, and his infant brother, Edward, seven months, were burned to death to-night in their beds in the home of their father, Manuel T. Dettencourt, wealthy dairyman, while their mother and father and brothers stood helplessly by. Thomas, 12. who was playing in the yard with Lavine, 7, when the fire broke out. was overcome by smoke and burned-attempting to force his way into the house to rescue his brothers. Even after his parents came home from a drive to find the home engulfed in flames, the courageout little boy broke away from his father and ran into the fire in a desperate but hopeless effort to reach his brothers. The boy was pulled out of the flames by his father and sent to a hospital, where he was treated for serious burns. The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr and Mrs Dettencourt and two sons went for a drive after dinner, leaving fou sons at home. Thomas and Lavine played in the yard, while Frederick and the baby. Edward, slept in the hous~. Suddenly the boys in the yard observed the house in flames. They were unable to reach their brothers, i:ut summoned neighbours, who were equally helpless.
