MAYOR THREATENS TO CALL POLICE.

SYDNEY CITY COUNCIL IS UNHAPPY FAMILY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cabld Association. SYDNEY, July 21. The purchase of a number of foreign motor-cars for use by the City’ Council officials in preference to British cars recently led to several heated debates in the City Council, which culminated in a violent scene in which Alderman Courtenay stated that he had been informed by several Labour aldermen that foreign cars were introduced into the City Council service because of a monetary consideration. The statement evoked bitter recrimination and the Lord Mayor, on a point of order, ordered Alderman Courtenay to leave the Chamber, threatening, otherwise, to bring in the police. A violent scuffle then ensued in the passage way and the meeting adjourned. Later, the Lord Mayor stated that he had asked the Town Clerk to make a full investigation of the contract. The Premier also stated that any request by the City Council for a Royal Commission to investigate the matter would receive full consideration.
