FLOCK HOUSE GIRLS’ HOSTEL OPENED
Per Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, July 21. The Governor-General and Lady Fergusson to-day officially opened Awapuni Hostel, known as the Girls’ Flock House, where fifteen daughters of deceased British seamen are being grounded in housekeeping and farming pursuits. Ills Excellency described the sheepowners’ scheme as the finest war memorial, as it was designed to help those whom brave men and women would have wished to be helped. He appealed for the interest of the public in providing homes for the girls when their school day’s were over. The Hon E. Newman mentioned that the fund had assisted 4700 disabled men and dependents in Britain and the dominions to the extent of over £50,009, and also established Flock Houses for boys and girls. Another link which the trustees hoped to complete was the bringing out of the mothers of young people already in the Dominion.
