Anyone who can invent a satisfactory non-skid horseshoe will "be rewarded 3000 dollars, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has announced. The society said it had examined 600 devices and found them unsatisfactory. The inventor must take into account present-day pavements, which are put down mainly* for motor traffic. Sharp-shoeing will not solve the problem. Once a sharp shoed horse gets off the ice and snow it finds itself on stilts and loses its balance, th© society says. Besides, the calks soon become rounded, making the shoe dangerous.
