GIRL GUIDES
On Tuesday night at the Gaiety Hall, kindly lent by’ Mr Seabrook, a committee was elected to start a Girl Guide company’ in the Papanui district and much enthusiasm was shown in furthering the movement which is doing so much for better citizenship in the women’s sphere, by its high ideals—teaching girls consideration for others, and making them efficient in various branches of home life, by’ cultivating hobbies, and making them self-reliant. Mrs Payne, Patron, presided. Her sister, Miss Evans, who has had considerable experience in the training of “Brownies” in South Australia is lion secretary, Mrs Stanley Foster, hon treasurer-, and on the committee are Mesdames Mac Andrew, Ross Lascelles, Torrance, Hamber, Martin and ,Seabrook, Mrs Noall and Miss M’Ewan, delegates from S i Paul’s Church, two delegates who were unable to be pres sent from the Methodist Church, Miss Meredith Kaye, two officers of the Merivale Company and Miss Worthington were present and gave much valuable information on the subject.. Letters were received congratulating the promoters and everything points to success. The committee meets at Mrs Stanley Foster’s house on Tuesday’, June S. and will attend the meeting at the Y.M.C.A. on Friday afternoon, when Lady Marjorie Dalrymple will address the provincial committees.
