FARMERS CONFER AND PASS REMITS.
OUTCOME OF MEETING AT ASHBURTON. At the annual conference of the mid-Canterbury district of the Farmers’ Union at Ashburton on Thursday, the following remits were carried:— “That the attention of the Government be called to the necessity for the introduction of a compulsory national provident scheme.” “That it be compulsory for all owners of motor-cars to take out a comprehensive insurance policy.” “That, owing to the increase of traffic, county councils and road boards be requested to see that fences and trees be cut back on all dangerous corners where the view is obstructed. “That the present system of election of the Meat Board be abandoned and that a system be adopted by which every registered sheep-owner should be given a personal vote through the post. “That the incidence of hospital and charitable aid board levies be reviewed. “That the conference favours a standardised size of woolpack.” “That the conference again urge on the Government the necessity of making the dehorning of cattle compulsory, registered cattle to be excepted. “That the annual scrapping of motorcar plates is unnecessary and an economic waste that should not continue.”
