WOMEN NOT FIT COMPANIONS FOR MEN.

IF OVER 40 SHOULD NOT SEE MORE THAN TWO PLAYS A YEAR, SAYS PLAYWRIGHT.

By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.—Aus. and X.Z. Cable Assn. (Received May 3, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 2.

Mr St John Irvine, speaking at Birmingham, declared that the English theatre was being ruined by women. A law should immediately be introduced forbidding the admittance of any

woman under forty to theatres, and the attendances of those older should be restricted to two yearly. Mr St John Irvine concluded, midst shouts and protests, by boldly asserting that women were inadequate companions for men, who were their intellectual superiors.
