5 KILLED BY TRAIN NEAR ADELAIDE.
EXPRESS HITS CAR AT LEVEL CROSSING ON RAINY NIGHT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N'.Z. Cable Association. ADELAIDE, May 1. (Received May 1, 10.5 a.m.) A shocking accident occurred at Cheltenham railway crossing when five occupants of a motor-car were killed. When the car was approaching the crossing, it was raining hard. All the curtains were closed, and as the crossing gates were open, the car was driven confidently ahead. When it reached the middle of the down line, the train from Adelaide to Port Adelaide crashed into it. There were three women and two men in the car. All the bodies were mangled beyond recognition, and the names of the occupants have not yet been definitely ascertained. They are thought to be all members of the Caire family of Port Adelaide. This is the second fatal accident that has occurred on a level crossing near Adelaide this week, and the third crossing smash in Australia in the same period.
