GIFT THAT CAME BACK.

LORD DEWAR, at a lunc ieon of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers in London last month, told the story of “ the only real Scotch present he had ever given.” It came back to him. He presented Sir Harry Lauder with some homing pigeons from his Sussex estate. They were packed in a hamper and taken by. the comedian to his Scottish estate. Next morning Sir Harry missed his pigeons. They had returned to Lord Dewar. “ Weel, what are ye going to do about it?” asked Sir Harry. “ Write it up as a gag and call it ‘ A Scotsman’s Generosity,’ ” replied Lord Dewar—and he did.
