DANNEVIRKE AUCTIONEER IS FINED. Ter Pros* Association. DANNEVIRKE, April 30. Mr Stout. S.M.. heard a case today, in which a local auctioneer, thirtyfive years of age, was charged with having sold by public auction without a license. Defendant, who is a member of an auctioneering firm, was at the time not a holder of u license, which was held by his son, who was absent on tho day conducting u sale elsewhere. Defendant. therefore arranged with another auctioneer to have his license transferred to him to enable him to conduct the sale. The town clerk being absent, defendant arranged to pay the transfer fee on his return, and this was done. Defendant contended that it was the practice to transfer auctioneers' licenses between firms. The Magistrate, in inflicting the minimum penalty of 10s and costs 7s, pointed out that according to the Act. an auctioneer could not transfer his license, to another auctioneer unless the latter was going to sell for an auctioneer holding a license.
