CLUBS USED IN BATHHOUSE RIOT.
OSAKA, March 15. A Korean stepped on the foot of a Japanese in a public bathhouse 3resterday, and before the fight was over one Japanese was dead, six were lying around seriously injured, and the street in front of the bathhouse was filled with naked women and girls, shrieking for someone to rescue their kimono. The Japanese whose foot was trodik n upon showed his resentment bv slapping the Korean fellow-bather, the big bathhouse at the time being full, with about forty men in their side of the establishment and nearly seventy women and girls on the female side of the big bui.ding, separated from the men by a more or less imaginary partition. The Korean retorted by laying the Japanese out with a wooden bucket, and then some thirty-five other Japanese proceeded to make a race question out. of it. attacking the four Koreans present. One Korean slipped out and came back with reinforcements, armed with clubs and cobblestones, with which they .made short work of the naked Japanese, in the fight shoving over the partition into the women's quarters and scattering these, unclad but unhesitating, into the open street. borne twenty arrests have been made.
