The opening match of the Australian Eleven’s tour, against the Minor Counties’ team, began at Holyport to-day. Collins won the toss and elected to bat. Play was started at 11.25 on a heavy wicket. Bowlers requisitioned saw-

dust from the jump. Falcon opened with a maiden to Collins. Both batsmen were careful. Bardsley scored tne first run of the tour off Meyer. When the score was 28 Collins misjudged a leg drive and was caught at mid-off. When stumps were drawn, Australia had made 179 in their first innings (Bardsley 42, Ryder not out 43) and the Minor Counties had lost four for 115.
