THE BAND CONTEST IN DUNEDIN.

(Special to the “ Star.”) DUNEDIN, February 26. Twenty-five trombones took part in the*solo event this morning. Brown (Wanganui Garrison) gave the most distinctive rendering., Marshall (Invercargill) was second. His playing was not so distinctive as that of Brown. Barsby (Woolston) also gave a gjood, solid performance. The final of the A Grade will be held this evening. Woolston are in fine form, but the result is likely to be close, as several bands are playing real13’ well. Wanganui Garrison, under Mr Watson, a smart young conductor from Australia, had greatly improved, • and St Kilda is also a fine combination. There is no doubt that there will be a lot of fine playing, and the result is difficult to forecast.
