FEBRUARY FROST CHILLED EVERYONE.
Away with cricket bat and ball, bails and stumps; bring on football, and hockey, the strenuous pastimes of the cold season. East night winter heralded its coming by 3.4 degrees of frost. However, there will not be another frost to-night, according to Mr Skey, of the Magnetic Observatory. “ Wind and clouds,” he said, “ drive away frost.” So gardeners may rest easy in mind for a while concerning their tomatoes and their pumpkins. It is only about once in three years, on the average, that frosts occur in February. Last, night s effort, though sharp, did -not last long.
