YOUNG MAN SEVERELY DEALT WITH IN COURT.
Becatise lie rode a motor-cycle at a speed dangerous to the public Edward V. J. Hawton was fined £lO in the Magistrate’s Court this morning and his license was • suspended. Mr Haslam appeared for defendant.
G. Lowis said that his little daughter had been knocked down by the defendant and that she received bruises to her arms and legs and cuts to her knees.
Mr Haslam: Hawton went round to see you after the accident and offered to compensate you?—Yes, he did.
Mr Haslam said that defendant was travelling at not more than thirty miles an hour. He swerved to avoid another car and in aoing so came into line with the little girl. He applied his brakes immediately, but they would not hold, but he" had reduced the speed of the cycle to five miles an hour by the time the child was. strfick.
The Magistrate: What, is his explanation for travelling at thirty miles an hour? *
Mr Haslam: Tic was in a hurry to get home to his lunch. He works at Whiteombe and Tombs’?; and it was their rush period. Defendant was fined £lO and costs and -was ordered .to pay £lO medical expenses involved by the accident to the girl. . “ His license will be suspended until March 31 next and he -will be disqualified from taking out another until February 22 next,” said the Magistrate.
