CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) REMANDED. Alfred William Astle appeared to answer a charge of failing to comply with a maintenance order made in respect of his illegitimate child. He was remanded to appear at Auckland on March 5. BY-LAW BREACHES, i For driving a motor-car while not paving a license to do so, the following persons were fined:—J. Coffey, £3; J. M’Guire, 10s; G. Williamson, £3. Because he failed to notify the change of ownership of a car, J. H. Cook was convicted and fined 20s and costs. F. G. Davison, for failing to produce a license to drive when required to do so, was fined os and costs. For motoring at night without lights G. Fulton was convicted and fined 10s. Convicted of cycling on the footpath, the following were fined as indicated; —G. Gamblin 20s, R. Horwell 20s, V. Kingdon 20s, F. W. Moyse 2s 6d, L. Redway ss, F. Wright 10s. R. A. Howlett, for pillion riding, was convicted and discharged. J. Hughes, on a similar charge, was convicted and fined 20s and costs. Because he drove a motor-car in a negligent manner, L. R. Hanna was fined 20s. A. O. Harris, for leaving a motor-car unattended for a period longer than allowed by law, was convicted and fined 20s. R. Mugford, on each of two charges of leaving his car parked on the wrong side of the street, and leaving it with- . out lights, was fined 10s and costs. For cycling at night without lights, the following were convicted and fined:—S. M’Cartney 10s, F. Skelton 20s. G. D. M’Hraith, for leaving a motor ‘ without lights, was convicted and fined 10s. South Island Motors were fined 10s on each of two charges of leaving a motor unattended and without lights. Flarris and Humphries, for using a motor-car while having no license to do so, were fined 10s and costs. William Pettit was convicted and fined £l,O for cutting a comer and £4 for driving a motor-car without a license. Lauritz Hansen, for speeding, was convicted and fined £lO and costs. Cyril Claude Newton, for cycling between a stationary tram and the kerbing, was fined 20s and costs. Horace Stevens, for motoring without a license and not keeping to the left of the road, was convicted and fined £3 on the first charge and 10s on the second. , George Edward Wilkins, for riding a rfiotor-cycle without a license, was fined £3, and for having no number plate attached was fined 10s. Robert B. Wilson was fined 20s for pillion riding. Leslie R. Hanna, for negligent driving, was convicted and fined £lO and costs. Bernard M’Kee (Mr Haslam) was charged with driving a motor omnibus at a speed exceeding that allowed by law for this particular class of vehicle. Defendant was convicted and fined £2 and costs.
