CUT AND DRIED PLANS ALLEGED.

M.C.C. SECRETARY DENIES SENSATIONAL , HARGES. By Telegraph— Press Assn.— Copyright. Reuter’s Telegrams. (Received February 25, 11 am.) LONDON, February 24. That he did not believe a word of it, and thought it calculated to stir up feeling, and that it was mischievous, were the comments of the Marylebone Club secretary, Mr Lacey, when he was shown a sensational evening paper article purporting to disclose cut and dried plans for to-morrow’s Marylebone meeting, at which the five Test selectors and a captain will be appointed, and criticising the authorities, first for the fact that if the proposed plans are carried out, Gilligan wojuld be the only member of the committee with Australian experience, secondly because not one of the great English professionals would have a place, the strings having been pulled against the co-option of Hobbs and Rhodes: and thirdly because several amateurs with past experience would be passed over. Mr Lacey added that he would surely have known if any such arrangements had been made. He could not believe that it had been done without his knowledge. He understood that one member of the Board of Control would like to propose the name of a very famous professional.
