The following temperatures have been recorded: Montreal ♦ . .. .. 11 degrees below zero Winnipeg .. .. .. 19 degrees below zero Port Arthur 28 degrees below zero New York .. .. .. zero Philadelphia . . . . .. 6 degrees above zero Northviile (Vermont) .. 16 degrees below zero Twenty deaths have already been reported, mostly from fires due to overheating, and several from exposure. One death was caused through the explosion of an overheated furnace. Argentina, meantime, is suffering a heat wave.
