USA Freezes, While Argentine Swelters.

The United States and Canada are shivering under a wave of extreme eold and terrific winds, which reached a velocity of eighty-four miles an hour. Suffering was increased- in some localities by the shortage of coal, due to the strike. The police are sheltering the homeless. Only parts of the South escaped the zero weather. The following temperatures have been recorded: Montreal ♦ . .. .. 11 degrees below zero Winnipeg .. .. .. 19 degrees below zero Port Arthur 28 degrees below zero New York .. .. .. zero Philadelphia . . . . .. 6 degrees above zero Northviile (Vermont) .. 16 degrees below zero Twenty deaths have already been reported, mostly from fires due to overheating, and several from exposure. One death was caused through the explosion of an overheated furnace. Argentina, meantime, is suffering a heat wave.
