NEW ZEALAND SWIMMING COUNCIL MEETS.

The Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association met last evening, Mr J. W. Toomey presiding. There were also present: Messrs C. Bryant (Wanganui), R. Hutchinson (South Auckland), J. Jackson (Manawatu), H. Levestam (Ashburton), J. R. Buchanan (Nelson), A. R. Jacobson (Manawatu), A. M’Donald (Westland) and D. Coulter (Canterbury). Mrs Stockley (Auckland) was appointed manageress for the tour of the New Zealand lady swimmers who are to take part in the Australian championships. The choosing of the distance swimmer to take part in these events was left in the hands of a subcommittee comprising those members of the council who were attending the New Zealand championship meeting at Napier. On the recommendation of the Records Committee the performance of A. Baird (Auckland), who swam 880yds in 11 min 59 2-ssec, was passed as a New Zealand record. It was decided that owing to the lateness of the suggestion it would not be possible to provide an exhibit at the Dunedin Exhibition illustrating the work done by the association in spreading a knowledge of swimming among the school children.
