Mrs George Rhodes is visiting Fer daughter, Airs Ben Howell, Cave. Mr and Airs M. Stewart, of Auckland. are among the recent arrivals at Warner’s Hotel. Mr and Mrs G. 11. Christchurch to day to visit the Exhibition in Dunedin. Mrs Joseph Todhunter left Christchurch to-day to spend a holiday in Marlborough. y Mrs TL G. Goring, Wilson Street, Timaru, has returned to Timaru from Christchurch. Airs R. J. Seddon and Miss Tlay. who have been visiting Mr and Mrs T. E. Y. Seddon, Greymouth, arrived in Christchurch last evening and went on to Wellington by the.. Wahine Archdeacon and Mrs J. A. Julius. St. Marv’ff Vicarage, Timaru, arrived in Wellington on Wednesday, and are the guests of Archdeacon and Mrs Hansell, Lower Ilutt, before returning to Timaru. The following are among the recent arrivals at the Hotel Federal: —Miss M Tackson, Wellington; Miss R. l'lains-v,-ortii. Auckland; Mr and Mrs A. Yidulich, Wellington: Mr and Mrs T. G. Weir. Dunedin : Mr A. K. Reeves, Auckland; Mr and Mrs D. Macpherson, Duusandcl. On the eve of her wedding Miss E. Thatcher, of Geraldine, was the recipient of many useful gifts at a. kitchen evening given in her honour. The members of St Mary’s choir also tendered Miss Thatcher an evening and presented her with a silver lea pot. The vicar, the Rev Harold Purcnas. I spoke of the valuable services she had rendered to the choir. Mr W. Borrell responded on behalf of Miss Thatcher. The North Beach Surf Club assisted by the Gala Social Committee, held a successful dance in the Peace Memorial Hall on Wednesday evening. The Monte Carlo waltz; was won by Miss Nelson and Mr Chambers and the lucky spot dances by Miss Lorimer and Mr Green, Mes-dmes Hamilton and Barker. The musJfc was provided by Mr Arundel’s band, and extras were played by Miss Dulcie Hull. Mr F. 11. Johnston officiated as M.C. A supper party was given last evening by Miss Vivian Babbage at Jicr residence in Colombo Road, in honour of Miss Lena Rotherham, who is shortly to be married. The supper room was tastefully decorated with choice blooms. The bride elect was the recipient of many useful gifts. Several musical items were rendered. Among those present were:—Misses Barraclough, Alma Fletcher. Helen Garthwaitc, T. Rhodes, Elsie Ilall, Aileen Kerr, E. Leman, I. M’Koy, G. Plaistowe. Betty Roxborough, Ilaynee Scott and Monica Wall. A social gathering of members of the Sydenham W.C/T.U. was recently held in the Methodist Schoolroom, Brougham Street. The superintendent of the cadle Toil (Mrs Cummins) had invited the mothers of the children on the cradle roll and a large number of mothers and their children. Mrs Richards gave ah interesting address, which was greatly appreciated by those present. Miss Dorothy Wicks contributed a musical monologue, Mrs Reeves and Mrs'lumber songs, Mrs W. Teague and Master Reeves recitations. Afternoon tea was served. Misy Ruth Good was hostess at an enjoyable party given at Ballantyne’s yesterday in honour of Miss Irene Edmonds, whose marriage takes place early next month. The afternoon took the form of a “bathroom party/’ The guest of honour was the recipient of many useful gifts. The table decorations were carried out with pink roses and maidenhair fern. Among those present were: Miss Good and Miss Irene Edmonds. Mrs W. R. Lascelles, Miss Olive Ballantyne, Miss Nchna Edmonds, Miss Gertrude Ballantyne, Mrs Arthur Skinner, Mrs Graham Jamieson, Miss Rosie Atkinson, Mrs R.' Horne, Mrs Herbert Hill, Mrs Maurice Johnstone, Miss Dora Warren, Mrs Eric Bcaven and Miss Merle Buxton.
