DARING JEWEL BANDITS.
HAUL OF ABOUT £IO,OOO. BRUTAL ATTACK ON WOMAN. An unusually brutal attack was carried out by bandits in the early hours of March 9 in a fashionable “ West Side ” apartment in New York. Three masked men, after following a couple of late revellers, a man and a woman, home from a Broadway cabaret, forced an entrance to their apartment by chopping down their door, and escaped with jewellery valued at 50,000d0l (about £10,000). As soon as the thieves got inside the premises, they bound and gagged the man with strips torn from the bedlinen, and afterwards attacked the wo- | man. tearing the rings from her fingers and the necklaces from her throat, and then they beat her on the head with the butt of a revolver to force her to reveal where the rest of her jewellery was concealed. When the men had secured their boot}', they departed unmolested. It is believed that they are all members of the same gang that has already perpetrated several similar outrages, in. which -the victims have always been frequenters of Broadway night clubs wearing.spectacular jewels, which doubtless aroused the cupidity of the thieves.
