“THE MERRY WIDOW.”

MANY BEAUTIFUL FROCKS. The revival of the ever-popular "31erry Widow” at the Theatre Royal last night was received with the keenest enjoyment by a largo audience. Miss Gladys Moncrieff’s verve and fine acting as Sonia secured for her a triumph, and Mr Leslie Holland as Prince Danilo and 31r Arthur Stigant as the comic Pohoff were splendid. The dressing was very fine, principals and chorus all wearing creations that made many scenes dazzling in their beauty and splendour. The scenery and effects were on the same high plane. The famous waltz should, judging from last night’s enthusiasm, soon have a new and vigorous lease of life. Miss Gladys Moncrieff wore several beautiful frocks. She made her first appearance wearing a French model gown of crocus mauve georgette, with a silver tissue underdress. The petalled panels were trimmed with brilliants representing baskets, clusters of velvet pansies in applique work giving original and attractive effect. With this frock she carries a fan of mauve-shaded ostrich feathers. In the second act she wore a black marocain frock heavily embroidered at the skirt hem in gold, and a swathed belt of black beaded in silver. Her tunic coat was of gold embroideries, lightly embroidered in green sequins. With this she wore a small hat of gold tissue, with a bird of paradise plume across the back. In her last appearance she wore a black georgette frock with a heavily sequined -black overdress, and a black liat with a wide lace and beaded brim. Miss Beryl Walkeley, as Natalie, in the first act wore an evening gown of deep rose pink marocain, with gold lace edged with blue and pink-plaited ribbon. In another scene she wore a cornflower blue georgette gown beaded in silver, over which was a handsome cloak of gold and green brocade trimmed with fur. 3liss Hazel 31 eld rum, the dancer, wore a petalled frock of black net with a silver sequinned bodice. 3liss Mabel Gibson wore an attractive frock of green georgette, with a tiered skirt of green and fawn lace, and a green side panel lined with henna georgette. Miss Linda Fo3 r wore a silver lace frock over gold, with fur trimming. In the second scene she appeared in a handsome frock of wisteria mauve georgette and silver lace, and a wrap of rose pink with heavy gold lace and pink ruchings. Miss Nellie Payne wore a dainty frilled frock of blue and silver shot taffetas with touches of pink, and a becoming blue and silver bonnet shaped hat.
