BRIDGE OF REMEMBRANCF

OPENING CEREMONY. To-morruvr will witness tlie opening ceremony of the noble memorial which has been erected by the citizens c f Christchurch in remembrance of Cansacrifice in the Great War. liis Excellency the Governor-General will make a special visit to Christchurch to perform the opening- ceremony, at 10 a.m. The order of the ceremony is as follow: -Arrival ot the Governor-Gfeneral and inspection of the guard of honour; introductory address by the chairman, Mr A. Borrows; address bv the Right Hon W. F. Massey, Prime Minister/ or, in his absence, by Sir Heaton Rhodes’ Minister of Defence: consecration praver by Archbishop Julius, hvmn, * b God Our Help in Ages Past”: address by Colonel Stewart, president of the R.S.A.: presentation by Mrs F. Wvn Irwin to the Mayor oi a Fitter from the committee handing over the memorial to the city; address bv the Mayor, Air J. A. Flesher; address by his Excellency the Governor-General, who will then cut the ribbons ui. each end and declare the bridge open; .National Anthem; march across the bridge by returned soldiers, headed bv the Regimental Band, saluting the Governor-General at the archway. Passing down Durham Street they will return via Oxford Terrace and re-cross the bridge, thus symbolising the departure and return of our troops in the Great War. At 1 L a.m. a two minutes’ silence will be observed, followed by the sounding of the “ Last Post."’ Arrangements have been made for the acceptance of wreaths, n number of which have already been offered. It is requested that all wreaths -should be at the. bridge at 9.30 a.m. Provision has also been made for seating accommodation for invalid soldiers, ladies and elderly pepole.
