WINGATUI NOTES.

(Special t-o the “ Star.") DUNEDIN, September 30. The rain which tell last week had a beneficial effect on the grass tracks at Wingafcui and the course proper should be in good order for the Dunedin Jockey Club’s spring meeting, if it receives only a slight amount of moisture prior to the. opening of the meeting. The plough gallop is now at the service of the trainers, and it provides good going, although perhaps a. shade on the deep side. The outside of the course was thrown open yesterday morning, but most of the trainers preferred to make use of the plough gallop. Bonnie Winkie. Fulmar and others belonging to A. Masters’s stable got through useful tasks before breakfast. Heather Lad strode over a couple oi: circuits on the plough and seems to have been improved by his racing at Geraldine, where the track did not suit him. Gorgeous, in the same stable, also looks smartened up by her racing at the same meeting. Baldowa bears an improved appearance and is gradually getting down to racing shape. Corn Rigs, Wapping, King Sol, Red Sol, Winkle, Fione and Kerb, who are engaged at the Kurow meeting, got through useful tasks. Roseday. who is engaged on the second day of the Dunedin meeting, was allotted a, couple of rounds at haifpace. He is gradually firming up-, but still looks in somewhat lusty condition. Interest in the track work w*ill not really start until the visiting horses commence to arrive. Some of them are booked to reach Wingatei ns soon as possible after the Kurow meeting. A. Goodman is bringing a fieam of seven horses, including Arpent, who is engaged in the M’Lean Stakes, and as a winner at Wanganui ranks as the first youngster to score this season.
