AUCKLAND NOTES.

(Special to the “ Star.’’) t- AUCKLAND, September 29 The training tracks at Ellerslie were fairly quiet last week, following the Avondale meeting. With the approach I of the Pakuranga Hunt meeting train- > era are now sending their horses along in fast work. > The most interesting item last week was recorded by Landslide, who gal- ' loped six furlongs on the outside of the course proper in lmin 21 sec ’ The Kenilworth gelding looks bright and well after his efforts at Avondale > and he should run well in the Jellicoe Handicap. Brolatique, an imported filly by i Black Jester, was for five furlongs on the No. 3 grass on Saturi day in lmin 4 3-ssoc. This filly has for som© time been showing pace over * short courses in private and she. 1 should win races. Other gallops recorded on the ura-ss ' on Saturday included one by BroadI wood, Joy Ride, Royal Present and ! Gala Day, who ran six furlongs in Imin 18sec. They finished in the order named Joy Ride has improved * considerably in condition during the ■ past month and it seems likely that ; he trill return to the winning list this i spring. | Polonett and Finn ore were together ! ft the end of six furlongs, run in ■ ' 1 min IS 3-osCc. The latter is nicely * j weighted in the Auckland Handicap i at the Pakuranga meeting. | Pompey was going easily alongside , j Freshman at the end of a round in j lmin 44$ec. This was a very fair gai- - ; iop for Freshman, who vHI he a com- | pc tit or in the Ladies BiaeoJet. a race 1 in which the opposition vi.ii not be j very strong. ! Alusketoon has not been extended j -nice- he raced at Avondale, but he i has been doing solid work. This horse j covered a lot of ground in .he AvonI dal© Cup and did well to finish thirc. j He is very well at present and should j make a. good showing in the Jeilico© Handicap. Alusketoon is engaged in the Melbourne Cut and New Zealand. Cup. As it is Hot likely he will go to Australia, he will probably be a competitor at Riccarton in November. The imported horse, Lapidary, ran two good races at Aeondale and "it was simply because he was above himself that he failed to reach the money. He should strip considerably better at the Pakuranga meeting, and if reserved for the Auckland Handicap he will make his presence felt. The three-year-old Chairman has been troubled with lameness and N. Cunningham has sent him back to his owner at Mangere. It is a pity that he has been troubled in this manner as he is a very useful sort. The hunters at Eilerslie this season ! are not a, very formidable lot. Hokemai, Rafferty, Freshman a.nd Brown Heath are probably the best. Among: the* novice brigade Ginger Carl and Llewellyn show most promise- Tan-t-anoola is a- good, solid looking sort, but he has a bad toouth and he is very hard to control. The Gisborne hunter Radio has arrived at Ellerslie, with a view to competing at the .Pakuranga meeting. He was schooled over the big fences last

week, but though he got round safely his display was not impressive.
