SPLIT BANK-NOTE CHARGE.

ACCUSED REMANDED ON £4OO BAIL. Heavy bail was asked and granted in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, when a man who was arrested yesterday on a charge of having split bank-notes in his possession, appeared before Messrs J. H. Seager and H. F. Herbert, J.P’s. David Goodsir, alias David Green, aged 25, was charged that without lawful authority or excuse he had in his possession a forged bank-note, knowing it to be forged. On the application of Chief-Detective Gibson, accused was remanded to appear at Ashburton on July 24. Mr Burns, for accused, made application for bail. The chief-detective asked that bail be substantial. Accused was a single man, living in a boarding-house in Christchurch. Bail was granted in the sum of £2OO, with one surety of £2OO, or two sureties of £IOO.
