The Appeal Court reserved its decision in the case Macdougall v. the Railway Department, in which the appellant seeks interpretation of regulations covering salary payments as ai fected by the “cui ,, and subsequent reclassification. At the St Albans School on Monday a presentation was made to Miss Verna I>alley, the winner of the first prize for the best Anzac l>ay essay. Messrs I/eadley, Orchard and fuming, representing the R.S.A , and Messrs Monro end Sey, representing the school, made short speeches. The prize consisted of three standard works- Mr B. Dailey responded on behalf of his daughter. Cheers were given for the prize-win-ner, the ICS.A. and the School Committee, The Christchurch Tramwav Board is taking steps to ensure that trailers ■'ill not be left on the public road at the St Albans tram terminus. The board has acquired the use of Harrison Street, a blind, unformed lane running c.fT Flockton Street, and work lias started on this with a view to converting it into a trailer siding. This v ill eliminate the practice of leaving trailers outside St- Aibans Park on the roadway. There is still a. considerable amount of unemployment in Christchurch, a total of seventy men having registered during the past week at the Labour Department’s bureau, compared with seventy-three regist: aliens the previous week. Of the total of seventy men, forty-one were labourers lit for hard work. The ot hers were . - Ore labourer fit for light work, two gardeners, four moulders, two carpenters, two farm hands, two fitters, four clerks, five motor-drivers, one storeman, two butchers, one tinsmith, one blacksmith and two hotel hands.
