The first international Advertising Convention in Europe was opened by the Prince of Whales at the Palace of Industry, Wembley, which was decorated with the flags of the different countries. Mr J. H. Thomas (Secretary of State) and the American Ambassador, Mr Kellog, were present. The Prince of Wales was given an enthusiastic reception. Lord Burnham welcomed the delegates. The Prince of Wales said that advertising aimed at providing throughout the world freer exchange of commodities at a lower cost of distribution, resulting in elimination of the unemployment wave and a reduction in prices. Mr Kellog said that he believed that the inter-Allied Conference in London would solve the greatest economic problem that had confronted Europe for generations. Mr Thomas welcomed the delegates on behalf of the Government.
