(Received July 15, 11.30 a.m.) PEKIN, July 14The siege of Kwei-lin lias been raised a>ud all the, missionaries are safe. Kwei-lin has been closely invested since the middle of April. It bas been constantly shelled and assaultedThe fight- was nominally between the forces of Sun Yat-Sen and AYu Pei-iu, but was mainly a, personal quarrel, the antagonists being ex-bandit leaders and formerly friends. Tbe city of Kewei-lin lias been closely besieged for the past tour months, because of fighting between the Ivwangsi and Kwang-tung Provinces. A message on June 11 said: —Two missionaries, the Rev E. H. Carne, of Australia, and the Rev Air Res, ol the South Baptist Convention, are still being held for ransom, and six others are besieged in Kwei-lin. A further message on June 15 said : —Twenty British end American missionaries are there. It is reported that the population is in the last stages of famine. No news has been received from the missionaries. The Foreign Office states that four missionaries were captured when trying to reach Kwei-lin from AYu-Chow. They started against official advice, and va-lked open-eyed into the bandit lair.
