ELECTRIC “CHAIR” FOR BUTCHERS.

ANIMALS KILLED BY ELECTRICITY. NEW YORK. April 0. The poleaxe and knife in slaughterhouses will he replaced in this country before long by electrocution. An electrocution cage has been tried on a dog at Lynn, Massachusetts, with success. The victim, a sick and homeless St Bernard, was led into the cage after a steel collar connected with electric wires had been placed round his neck. His feet were wotted as lie stood on a steel plate which covered the floor, making a circuit for 1500 volts of electricity. The cage was opened tAvelve seconds after tne electric current had been switched on, and the dog was found dead. Tn slaughter-houses, of course, much longer cages and heavier voltage will be employed, and the method, experts say. will greatly expedite the killing of animals, as well as ensuring painless death.
