RICCARTON LABOUR PARTY. The Riccarton branch of the Labour Party held their regular euchre party and dance in the Town Hall, and the affair was largely attended. The ladies’ prizes were won bv Mrs P Porter. Miss Lake, and Mrs' A. Barritt, in the order named, and the men’s bv Messrs R. Glenn, W. Collins, and J. Darcy. The “ low number” prizes to Mrs M Sanders and Mr M. M’l.aughlin. After supper an enjoyable dance was bold, to mu sir supplied bv Mr Bruce fcstall. Mr W. H. Saunders was M.C. In the novelty waltz the prizes were -won by Mrs F. .'Smith and Air J. Whittaker. See advertisement in the amusements column Tor future events. E.AI. ASSEMBLY. 'Ptiosday night's dance was again largely attended, and the evening passed oft very enjoyablv. Mr Reg Woods supplied tl»e music, extras being played by Airs Eaglcton and Air Cask ill. Air H. Eaglcton was ALT'. The weekly euchre party and dance drew a good attendance, better than usual. The prizes were won by Alesdames Saunders and Houlihan, and Miss AUI-«a ugh lin the luckv number; Messrs Alfcld and Westawav, with Mr (‘avanngh on the lucky number. The newly formed Wbarenui Hockov Club has had a successful run so tar in the fourth grade competition, having played three matches and won them all. The goals for are seventeen, and against one. Tho results of the three played matches were as follows:—A’. Sydenham B. won 6 to nil (B. Henery 5, K. Fleming D : v. Trinitv, won 4 to 1 (C. Barrell 1. R. Henery 1. N. Lowe 2) ; v. Whilst supporters c.f the club are greatly pleased with the success achieved, they hope that the boys will keep on practising assiduously. for it often happens that defeated teams “ come again ” in the second round. ATETHODIST ACTIVITIES. Sunday last was observed as “Mothers’ Day” at the Riccarton Methodist Churches, the Rev B. J.

On Wednesday evening Miss Thelma Henderson, one of the teachers of the Clarence Road Methodist Church, was entertained at a social by her follow teachers and the scholars, on the eve of her approaching marriage. Clyde 'Road and Church Corner will be j well advised to keep off the footpath j as tho cycle track is now being taken up to make room for the concrete j channel which will take, its place. ! The usual fortnightlv meeting of the 1 Loyal Riccarton Lodge, 1.0.0. F., .'ALU., was .old last week, Bro Wood, ! X.G.. presiding over a fair attendance !of members. Six members were reported on th%.' sick list, and sick pay due to them was passed for payment. also one maternity grant. Bro Cullen, P.G.Af.. reported having attended the installation of Bro Millington, D.G.AI. which took place at the Loyal Yolun--1 tor Lodge. It was decided to entertain tho wives and lady friends of members after the next lodge meeting One new member was initiated. ELITE DANCE ASSEMBLY. The Elite Dance Assembly held another of their successful dances last Thursday evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Upper Riccarton. The ball was prettily decorated with native greenery. and red and blue streamers. Smith’s Marine Band, a newly organised combination, supplied excellent music for Jbe dancing, and Mr R. Holmes was M.C. It is the intention of the assembly to hold a carnival ball at an early date. Patrons are | advised to watch these columns. Residents are invited to supply news of personal interest, social items, meetings, and so on, for publication in tho “Riccarton Records.” Items may he left at Piper’s Store.
