INSPECTOR KILLED.
MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE HEARING. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 14 I The hearing began in the Magis 'i ra te's Court ot the manslaughter J charge against Frank M’Devitt, motor ; mechanic, in connection with the death j of M iiliani Cross, traffic inspector, on | the Huit Road on April 26. due to hi.s being knocked down by a car driven by accused. Medical evidence was given thut cTe ceased was admitted to hospital with fractured legs, a scalp wound and bruised arms. He died on April 29 from delayed shock. A fracture of the skull wag revealed by a post mortem examination.
John Joseph Hunter, an eye-witness of the accident, said that deceased signalled to the car, which was leading u number of others, and which was travelling at least twenty-five miles ar. hour, but the car did not stop, and went right over Cross.
