A nre alarm system is to be extended to that portion of Papanui recently added to the city. Eight alarm boxes to bo installed will cost £lB 10s each f.o.r. Dunedin, and the Telegraph Department will charge £7O to extend the aerial wires to the boxes. At the annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society last evening, Colonel C. J. Cooper said he thought they should congratulate their ranger, Mr -J. Digby, on his work for the past, season. These remarks were followed by loud applause. The chairman conveyed th© thanks as requested to Mr Digby. The secretary, Mr C\ W. Hervey, mentioned that since joining the society Mr Digby had averaged a case a week. (“Hear, hear” and applause.)
