Arne Borg was timed to cover a furlong trial swim in 2min 21 2-6 sec., which is the fastest swim ever recorded in Australia. The organisation of a successful carnival requires that the programme shall be us varied os possible, and that the beet swimmers shall compete. Both these requirements will be fulfilled at the annual carnival of the East Christchurch Swimming Club on Wednesday night. The two premier clubs of Canterbury will battle for supremacy in the water polo championship final, and in the 500 yd flve-men-a-«ide Bryce Cup. Canterbury Championship and the Hollander Cup flfteen-a-sido Squadron Championship. The East Christchurch Dare Devil Troup© will give a diving exhibition, and N. S. Batchelor will RttempH to lower the 100 metres record of 70sec.
