PREFERENCE TO U.S.A.
RECIPROCAL PROPOSALS By Telegraph— Pr©si» Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received .January 12, p.m.) NEW YORK, January 11. Much regret is expressed at Mr Bruce’s inability to come to America. It is due to Ins wife’s illness. The extensive plans made for their entertainment, including u dinner by tho Pilgrims’ Society and various receptions, have been cancelled. Advices from Ottawa state that Mr Bruce’s altered plans will in no wise affect the negotiations for a preference treaty, since Mr Wilson will proceed directly to resume with Mr Mackenzie King the discussions which Mr Bruce hail conducted with the Canadian Premier at London. Tt is unck?r6tood that Canada, having made known the concessions she can afford to grant, now awaits a statement concerning Australia's reciprocal concessions. A rough draft of the nroposed treaty will probably bo formulated within a few days of Mr Wilson’s arrival, v/hich he will be able to bring homo for consideration by Parliament.
