The Government received a check at the hands of the Chamber which, by 831 votes to 200, referred a Bill for an increase in payment to public servants owing to the higher cost of living to a committee for further consideration. The Government bad proposed the increase to !>e 263,000,000 francs, whereas the Socialists -demanded 1,160,000,000 francs.
