_Mr Murray Kean, secretary of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. The Hon W. Downie Christchurch at midday to-day for TV muka, where ho remains until January Dr J. Allan Thomson and Air B. C. Aston have been appointed members of the Board of Governors of the Now Zealand Institute. A Waihi telegram states that Mr Thomas Gilmour died yesterday in his eighty-third year. He had been engaged in mining since he was twentyone years of age in Victoria and New Zealand. He was appointed manager of the Waihi mine in 1893, and was succeeded by his son, Air J. L. Gilmour. in 1902. Ho retired as a consulting mine manager* in 1913. Deceased is survived by Mrs P G. Morgan (Wellington) and Mrs A. V. Morgan (Waihi) and one son, Air J. L. Gilmour. Mr Allan AJillor, eldest son of Alt and MrstH. Afiller, of Hamilton, who has been attached to tho Pacific Cable service at Fanning Island and Vancouver, for the past three years is visiting Hamilton. He is on six months’ leave. Dr T. H. A. Valintine, DirectorGeneral of Health, has been visiting Taranaki, where he inspected the health camp for children, conducted by Dr Gunn, under the auspices of the Wangainui Education Board, Dr Gunn is school medical officer for the board. Air C. E. Webb, F.1.A., N.Z., well known in bnsiness circles as director and secretary of Alessrs T. Ballinger and Co., Ltd., Wellington, for many years, is retiring from the firm early in the New Year. Air Webb is entering the business of Air A. J. Petherick, F.1.A., N.Z., punlic accountant and auditor, and in future the firm will practise under the name of Petherick and Webb Besides his business activi ties, Air Webb is closely associated with, musical and kindred affairs in Wellington, notably in connection with the Royal Wellington Choral Union and the community singing movement. Air Philip Palmer, who has bCdT*organist of St George’s Anglican Church, Seatoun, Wellington, for the past three years, has resigned from that position, and will leave to take up his residence in Sydney early in January. Air Palmer has been connected with musical matters in Wellington for many years past. At a meeting the vicar, the Rev A. T. B. Page, in presenting Air Palmer with a case of pipes on behalf of the choir, referred in complimentary terms to his valuable services, and wished him health and happiness in his new sphere of labour. „ Mr W. E. Leicester, L.L.8., of the firm of Alessrs Bell, Gully, M’Kenzie and O’Leary, of Welington, is severing his connection with the firm after 3even vears’ service, to commence practice upon his own account in Welliz gton. He 6 7 as met by his colleagues on the staff and presented with an office chair, a filing cabinet, and an inkstand. Mr W. Fisher, in asking Air Leicester to accept these evidences of goodwill, referred to his excellent service, his successful court work, and amicable relations with liis fellows. Alessrs Cheviot Bell arrd A. B. Buxton also spoke, wishing Air Leicester every success in his new sphere, and that gentleman briefly replied. •
