Alembers of the Y.M.C.A. Walking Club, who are to make the Alii ford Track trip, left by the South express to-day for Gore, whence they will proceed to Lake Te Anau. The party will return to Christchurch on January 1. The committee of the Rosemary Jazz Club announce a special carnival dance to welcome the New Year on Alonday, December 31. New Year’s Eve. - The music for this dance will be provided by Bailey’s Jazz Band, and a real noveltv has been prepared for the extras. Dancing will continue till 1 a.m. At this morning’s sitting of the Magistrate's Court Chief-Detective A. Cameron, on behalf of the Christchurch police, wished Mr H. Y. Widdowßon, S.M., the compliments of the. season. In reciprocating the greetings his Worship wished the Court social workers and the Press a Merrv Christmas. The expresses from Dunedin and the West Coast were both heavily laden yesterday. The Midland express arrived on time, but the south express was 37 minutes late in arriving at Christchurch owing to the heavy load of fifteen carriages and three mail and baggage cars. The 7.28 express from Invercargill carried only a small n umber v of passengers, the twelve carriages being less than liali occupied.
