(Special to ihe “ Star.”) GREY MOUTH, December 20. PERSONAL. Mr J. H. Darkness ha* resigned the presidency of the Buller brunch of th© New Zealand Education Institute, of which he lias been president since its inauguration. A Westport telegram announced the death of Mr Julius Sehadick, C.E., late borough engineer; aged seventy-nine. The teachers of the Grey Main and Cobden Schools met to bid farewell to Mrs R. Bignell, who is leaving the service. Mr Allison, on behalf of the teachers, asked Miss Bignell to accept a small present, and wished her every success in tho future. The pupils of the infant department also presented Miss Bignell with a token showing the esteem held for her by the children. Miss Biguell's work lias been of the highest order, and she has always been to the fore in any work tending towards the advancement of the school. Mr B. Niepor, Grey mouth representative of Messrs Wilson and Canliam, was met by tbe boarders of the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel and presented with a travelling rug on the occasion of his marriage, which took place at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Reefton, this morning. Mr ,T. L. Morgan made the presentation. Mr and Mrs Nieper will spend their honeymoon at Auckland, the bridegroom’s home town. TIMBER R OYA LTTES. About a year ago a conference of West Coast county representatives discussed the position of the counties with regard to timber royalties threatened by the Government’s afforestation policy. The matter was lately taken up by the Taumaranui County Council, and involved the council in a good deal of legal expense. A copy of a letter received from the council by the Westland County Council was read at yesterday’s meeting of the Grey County Council, which decided to 00-operato with the Taumaranui body, and vote £2 2s towards expenses. TAXI DRIVERS’ ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of Greymouth taxi drivers and proprietors, it was unanimously decided to form an association of motor proprietors and drivers. Mr G. H. Webster was appointed president, and Mr H. M’Glashan secretary and treasurer of the association. A committee of five members was .also appointed. The objects of tlie association are to get recognition by the borough council in the matter of the issue of drivers’ licenses by that body; also the establishment of motor services to numerous pleasure resorte around Greymouth, together with a more efficient service and uniformity of fares. The capital involved and-invested by the association’s members totals £II.OOO. The distinguishing badge of the association will be a red star inside a circle, on which will he printed; “Greymouth Taxi Drivers’ Association.” These stars will be attached to all cars in -the association.
