PUSHING AUSTRALIAN MEAT.
SIR HENRY JONES’S PROPOSALS. By Telegraph—PVesa Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received December 6. 12-40 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 6. The Meat Council discussed Sir Henry .Jones’s proposals to send meat to Germany and form a distributing corporation to acquire retail shops in Britain. Speakers expressed their opinion that as these shops would necessarily have to deal with other meats besides Australian. the proposal should include payment of a bonus to shopmen to push the Australian product. The meeting carried a resolution of sympathy with the project, but stated that the council could undertake no financial responsibility in connection with the proposals. Tt is understood that Sir "Henry .Tones suggested that £1.000.000 be raised to finance the scheme bv means of ordinary .shares, which bis firm would be prenared to underwrite. Another surgestioo is that £500.000 should be raised bv Government debentures and £500,000 by preference shares, the whole carrying 7 per cent interest.
The Legislative jCouncil appointed a committee to inquire into the question itself.
