TASMANIA’S POSITION.

Air Lyons, Premier of Tasmania, waited on Dr Earle Page and requested financial assistance by the Commonwealth to nave Tasmania from bankruptcy. Mr Lyons explained that hia Government bad prepared a. memorandum for T)r Earle Page showing the hopeless position of Tasmania. He added that it would be cheaper for the Commonwealth to lend aid now than to carry the burden subsequently if the country failed. The amount required by Mr Lyons was not specificially stated, but it is understood that it exceeds £150.000. Tho Commonwealth is at present paying £85.000 annually to Tasmania.
