At a stop-work meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Seamen’s Union, a resolution was carried deploring the fact that the Government had appointed a permanent secretary of the Marine from outside the Marine De--1 The- resolution continues” In its appointments to the post of secretary since the death of Mr George Allport, the Government has shown complete I lack of appreciation of what is required, and as a result, the Department, from being one of the most efficient in the Government service, has degenerated into a nest of disorganisation and muddlement. We protest against the appointment, of a person having little we demand that a thorough qualfication for the post shall be the only consideration governing the appointment
