SUMMER TOILET HINTS.

There is nothing more irritating than to possess moist, clammy hands, for they are not only extremely uncomfortable, but make it almost impossible to undertake any fine, dainty needlework. Excessive perspiration of the hands is occasionally due to general debility; and the first step towards a complete and permanent cure lies in building up one’s health, and for this a good tonic —particularly one containing iron—should be taken regularly for about six weeks, discontinued for the same length of time, and then started again for another six weeks. For excessive perspiration under the arms a sponge soaked in very hot water, squeezed out, and held into the armpit for a few seconds will be found to give great, and in some cases permanent, relief. After a day spent boating, whether on the river or the sea, it is not unusual to find that the hands are extremely sore, if not actually blistered. To prevent soreness and the possibility of blisters forming, the palms of the hands and lower portions of the fingers should be rubbed with a little ordinary vaseline. Only a very little should be applied. not sufficient to make the hands greasy, but merely as much as the skin will absorb, and after it has been rubbed in, the hands should be wiped over with a soft towel or old silk handkerchief. At the end of the day, if there be any sign of redness or irritation of the skin, apply a little more vaseline, rubbing it in very gently.
