THE ASSOCIATION’S PRESIDENT.

AIR R. E. ALEXANDER. The president of the association this j year is Air R. E. Alexander, director j of the Canterbury Agricultural Col- j lege. Lincoln. Air Alexander, who is a native of Londonderry, north of Ireland, was installed as director of ’ the College on May 18. 1909. succeeding Professor AV. Lowrie when that gentleman was appointed Director of Agriculture for AVest Australia. Air 1 Alexander comes of a good farming stock, and prior to taking up his pre- • sent position ho had considerable ex- ’ perience at practical farming. He holds a first-class certificate from th© Rural College of Science, Dublin, and 5 immediately prior to taking up his

present position ho was lecturer in agriculture at Albert College, Glafinevin. County Dublin and was director of the farm attached to that College. Under Mr Alexander's control Lincoln College has grown in importance and value, not only as a teaching institution, but also as a locality where valuable and important agricultural experiments are conducted Whilst Mr Alexander has been president of the association lie has, with the hearty co-operation of the General Committee and the members of the association, been successful in initiating and in bringing to fruition a progressive policy that has added considerably to the status and importance of the association.

THIS YEAR’S ENTRIES; COMPARISON WITH TWO PREVIOUS YEARS. THE ENTRIES FOR THE SHOW. The entries for the show show an increase of 110 over those for last year's show. There have been increases in the entries of horses and sheep, whilst cattle and pigs show only a very slight decrease. There has l*een, a substantial increase in the entries lut he dairy produce section and the sections of a similar character. The following is the list of entries, giving a comparison with those of 1922 ami 1921 :
