I new exhibitors was discussed and left ore for further consideration. Roswell has been elected a li|o member of tho Sumner-Redcliffs Horticultural Society Mr A. AY. Smithson, the son of Mr and Mrs G. AY. C. Sraithsou, of the Esplanade, is being very heartily, congratulated upon winning the senior championship of the AVaitaki High School. Last year he won the school cross-country race and lias already the junior championship to his credit. Mr and Mrs H. Buttle, of JNayland Street, arc at. present visiting Cheviot. Mrs J. G. M Donald, of Bury Stteet, has been appointed convener of the ladies committee for the opening day of the Sumer Life Saving Club. SMOKE CONCERT. Tho first annua] smoke concert of the Sumner Football Club was held in the Sumner Town Hall, when a large and representative gathering'waa presided over by M r T. C. Evans. The principal toast of the evening—-the. Sumner Football Club—was proposed by AIrAA. J.. Sergi&on, and responded to by by the captain, Mr H. AViJson. and Mr T. Prebble. Mr Sergison coni gratulated the club on the success ; achieved by ifs members during the ; past season, which he said was in no ! small measure due to the efforts of tho 1 roach. Mr A. M. J>on. and ho hoped l that they would achieve even greater i success during the next season. Musical and other items were rendered by , Messrs I>unhea, Taylor, Green hank \ r . and M. Prebble and R. Unwin. TAYLOR'S MISTAKE. I There was a- record meeting iu the pavilion - last week-end. when the an nual report and balance-sheet of the Taylor’s Mistake Life Saving Club was ; presented and adopted. Mr F. D. Kc-s----teveu presided. It was decided to nj»1 proa eh the Sumner .Borough Council with a view to ( securing better bathing ‘ facilities for visitors. Mr G. Pearce I was elected captain, with Air A. Bari rett vice-captain. THE LATE MRS BR AKE. There passed away at the age of i seventy-nine, in the person of Mrs | Brake, one who was identified with I Red cliffs district almost from its • be* I ginning. Arriving in New Zealand in ; the year 1869, she lived in Chrjst- ! church for a time, then in the Rolles ton district- and later again in Christchurch. - For the last twenty-two years she had been post-mistress in connection with her store at Redcliffs, and it was with great regret that the residents learned that she-had had to retire oh account of ill-health. To show their appreciation of her kindly nature they subscribed a substantial sum of money for her beuefit. She was'laid to-rest An the Ricc-arton Cemetery. and many of the residents of Red-cliffs and other friends were represented. Her husband predeceased her many years ago.
