BIG FIRE IN SYDNEY.
CONGESTED BLOCK THREATENED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received October 25, 11.40 a.m.) SYDNEY. October 25. Fire broke out near midnight at John Danks’s hardware premises in Pitt Street, a couple of streets away from the Central Railway Station. The damage is estimated at over £60,000. Two firemen were injured, one of them (J. Houston) falling through a, covered skylight on the fourth floor to the bottom. The flames by one o’clock had eate i their way from the top floor through the building, the fire fighters being compelled to direct all their energies to preventing the neighbouring buildings in a congested block from catching fire,
