PLUNKET SOCIETY.
The monthly committee meeting of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket Rooms. There were present Mesdames J. Cracroft Wilson (in the chair», Staniland, Lester, Acland, Bloxam. L. Clark, Morten, E. Harper, A, H. Bristed. J. Studholme. Deans, Holland. M'lntosh, Blackwell, R. W. Anderson, Godby, Cecil Wood’and Miss Pyne. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Pyne, Catherwood, Gamble, W. A. Moore and J. Stevenson. Mrs Studholme reported that arrangements were well in hand for the two dances to be held on November 5 and 6 in aid of the society’s funds. The names of Mrs Edgar Stead and Mr and Mrs B. B. Wood had been added to the Dance Committee, and already the Supper Committee had received many generous contributions. Offers of sujaper and donations towards the fruit salad were made by members of the committee, many c£» whom were also selling tickets. Sister Cunnington’s resignation from the staff of the Karitane Hospital was accepted with great regret. It had been hoped she would continue her association with the society, but her future plans will not enable her to do this, and the good wishes of the committee follow her into her new work. It was decided to entertain her at morning tea on Wednesday, October 24. at 11 am., in the Plunket Rooms. The contract for the new wing at Karitane Baby Hospital has been signed. and the contractors, Me96rs J. Hammett and Sons, will commence the work directly the weather improves. Miss Lindschaw. who has been appointed matron at the Karitane Hospital, commenced duty on September 27. Leave of absence was granted Mrs T. Cracroft Wilson for nine months. Mrs A. H. Bristed. in agreeing at the earnest wish of the committee to act as president during Mrs Wilson’s absence, expressed the hope that her visit to England would be most enjoyable. Mesdames Cracroft Wilson, H. R. Smith. Bristed and Wood were invited to attend a meeting of the North Canterbury branch held at Rangiora to discuss any question of mutual interest. A letter was received from Mrs Gordon Fulton (Amberley) accepting a seat on the Christchurch Committee. For the hospital the matron reported three babies admitted, two discharged, 13 in hospital, one mother admitted, one mother discharged. The two premature babies at present in hospital are progressing favourably. was admitted with twins. Nurse Truman completed her training and went to a case. Nurse Humphries commenced her training on October 3. For the office Nurse Allan reported 98 new cases. 529 visits to homes, S3O babies and 821 adults visited the office, and 11 expectant mothers were seen. At the Sydenham branch 78 babies, 21 older children. 90 adults and eight new cases were seen. During the month several travelling mothers 'were supplied with humanised milk fpr their babies at the railway station. For the country Nurse Wilson reported 257 adults. 96 children. 182 babies were seen, 23 new cases and one expectant mother were interviewed. The numbers of babies at the New Brighton room were still increasing, and to cope adequately with the work there a second day per week is needed. It is hoped with the help of their active local committee to be able to arrange this before long. Gifts to the hospital are most gratefully acknowledged from Mesdames Dawson. Sinclair. Murchison, Cracroft Wilson and the Amberley branch of the Plunket Society, to all of whom th« committee's thanks are due. New members during the. month are as follows:—Mesdames Reese, Crawford, Purdie and Henry.
