The Wahine was tied up at tlt<? No. 1 Breastwork early on Saturday afternoon, and the Maori shifted from No. 3 wharf cast, where she had berthed in the mo ruing, across to the ferry wharf. The Maori left for Wellington in the evening with the ferry passengers and mails. Captain Irwin will take over command of the Mararoa to-day. The Gale, from Timaru. arrived on Saturday and sailed in the evening for Wellington. The Atua arrived yesterday from Wellington. and will sail to-morrow for Dunedin. She will arrive back on Friday to load for Ai&kland, fnr which, port ehe will sail via Wellington.

The Meriones is a product of Palmer's Shipbuilding Yard. Hebburn-on-Tyne, and ■was only built last year. She is a. vessel of 7684 tons gross, with a, length of 472 ft, beam of oSft. depth of 33ft, and w«3 constructed primarily for the company's Eastern trade. Like her sister ship, the Meriones is turbine-driven, and on the run down from Kobo to Newcastle averaged fifteen knots an hour, and taking but a little over twelve days, which stamps her as one of tho fastest cargo steamers afloat. After loading concentrates at Port Pirie, the Meriones will go to Sydney to commence loading for Dunkirk. Hull and London, for which ports she will receive prompt dispatch.
